Scottish U15 and U17 Championships at Scorching Scotstoun

DSC00935 648 x 486 150x150 Scottish U15 and U17 Championships at Scorching ScotstounIt was an unusually quiet affair at this years "Scottish" with many ever present faces missing through injury or just life in general. A shame indeed as the Stadium is impressive and the weather was fantastic (at least on Sunday when yours truly was there). I look forward to seeing the same faces…plus a few more next year!! It was however very encouraging to see the friendliness and sportsmanship shown by our athletes and their injured supporters!DSC00938 600 x 450 150x150 Scottish U15 and U17 Championships at Scorching Scotstoun

Gareth Fleming was our only male representative over the weekend and despite being injured at the Super8 victory in July still managed to get over the hurdles, achieve a Javelin throw giving him no7 in Scottish Pof10 ranking and a bronze medal in the Pole Vault. He has another year at this age group so I look forward to watching his progress over the coming months. Ashley Boak our sole U17 woman produced a seasons best  of 29.38 in Saturdays javelin contest to finish a creditable but frustrating 4th and rounded off with 7th in the discuss on Sunday. Another to experience the highsand lows of our sport during the weekend was Ellen Kristoffersen who was delighted with a big PB of 2.60 in the Pole Vault (where both girls achieved Scottish All Time Performances) only to be dissappointed with the height achieved in one of her main events, the high jump (5th). Megan Fleming  competed in the 100m where she was 5th in her heat and in the long jumpDSC00934 648 x 486 150x150 Scottish U15 and U17 Championships at Scorching Scotstoun. Amy Frankland thought the pace in her 1500m heat was pretty quick and was surprised to be a bit behind her PB. I think we can underestimate the effect of strong sun and heat when we're not used to it!! Fiona Matheson ran very close to her personal best in the fastest 800m heat to finish 5th and she will be encouraged to note that the qualifiers (Katherine Gillespie and Mhiari Hendry) finished 2nd and 3rd in a very strong final. Well done to all of the athletes and sun-kissed spectators.

U13 Girls Superteams

The club's U13 Girls' team gave a good account of themselves today at the Scottish Superteams competition at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow.

In the first event of the day, the 100m, all four girls ran new PB times.  Beth Murray (15.42s), Rachel Louden (15.82s), Lisa Robertson (15.94s) and Rachel Hutchison (16.10s).  More PBs were to follow in the long jump for Beth (3.82m), and Rachel Hutchison (3.16m), while Lisa jumped 3.57m and Rachel Louden 3.31m.100 2155 300x225 U13 Girls Superteams

The third event (Shot Put) saw all four girls register PBs again, as Beth threw 4.53m, Rachel Louden 4.06m, Rachel Hutchison 3.87m and Lisa 3.73m.

The girls rounded of a fine day's work by running very well in a tough medley relay (2 x100m, 1 x 200m & 1x 800m), finishing fifth.

The team all performed well on the day, produced new PB performances, and gained valuable experience.  Considering they were the youngest and smallest team in the competition, they did very well, and will all be eligible for next year's competition.

Forth Valley League Final

Despite being missing a number of regular competitors due to injuries and other commitments, the club’s young athletes produced some fine performances at Grangemouth today to finish third overall in the Forth Valley League Division One for the season.

A lot of athletes were asked to compete in events which they don’t normally do, but they all rose to the challenge to earn valuable points for the team.

Well done to all the athletes, coaches, officials, parents and helpers.  It was a real team effort, and the feelgood factor nearly led to Davie Mac sharing his chocolates on the bus home!
