The National Cross Country Relay Championships took place at Cumbernauld on Saturday 22/10. Lasswade AC fielded two young male teams and an incomplete senior men’s team.
After a strong performance by our young males in the recent East District Cross Country Relays at Livingston we believed we could be in the hunt for the medals at the Nationals.
Harry Henriksen (u13) on our first leg had another fine run finishing over 30 seconds in front of the next finisher to give Jamie Kinghorn (u15) a good lead. Jamie ran well to hold the lead as long as possible and hand over in 4th place to our final runner, Magnus Tait (u17). Magnus ran a strong final leg and was in a small pack fighting for the bronze medal eventually just missing out by a few seconds to finish 5th.

In our other team Jamie Watt (u13) in his first cross country race had a good run to hand over in 38th place to Angus Cousin (u15). Angus ran well to hand over to our final leg runner Christian Graham (u17). Christian one of our newer members ran a strong race to pull back 7 places and bring the team home in 50th place.
Eighty five complete teams finished the race and there were quite a few incomplete teams. I think this highlights how well all the boys did, a great team effort! Well done to you all!
It was a great event and fantastic for the young athletes to see two Olympians showing their class on the country with both Calum Hawkins and Andrew Butchart in the senior men’s race.
