Endurance Session – 09/02/2019

On Saturday 9th February 2019 endurance coaches Kirk and Linda Smith invited Tom Hanlon (Olympic steeplechaser) to deliver  a training session to a number of athletes from the Lasswade AC endurance group.

Fortunately, the weather stayed dry for us but on the downside it was blowing a gale. With only two weeks to go to the National cross country championships it was quite a tough session in the conditions but it was good to see all the group complete it – although not all were standing at the end!

Inter District Cross Country Champs – Stirling – 12/01/2019

The inter district championships had been held for a number of years at Holyrood Park, in Edinburgh. However, with funding for the event being withdrawn by Edinburgh District Council the event was moved to Stirling this year.

In recent weeks the weather has been mild and dry and this weather continued over last weekend meaning that although it was windy on Saturday the course was in very good condition underfoot with little or no mud.

Lasswade AC had three athletes competing and first off was Harry Henriksen in the under 15 boys race. The course really only had one hill at the start and the rest of the course was flat or downhill  which suited the faster track athletes, however Harry ran well and got stronger the longer the race went on working his way through the field and finishing in 3rd place and helping the East to 2nd team place.

In the Ladies race we had two athletes, Amy Frankland in good form after recently setting a personal best over 3000m indoors was representing Scottish Universities and Keira Gore in the East of Scotland team together with older sister Freya Murray- Ross.

Amy Frankland had a strong run to finish in 20th place helping the scottish universities  to 2nd team place. Keira had a solid run a few places further back in 34th place while sister Freya was just inside the top 10 in 9th place helping the East to 1st team place.

East District Cross Country Championships – Aberdeen 08/12/2018

The East District Cross Country championships took place today at Balgownie Playing fields in Aberdeen. It was a cold and windy day but otherwise the conditions for running were good.

As always with Aberdeen the numbers competing drop off and our numbers were further depleted with six call offs due to injury or illness.

In the first race of the day, the U13 girls, we had two athletes competing, Amy McLaughlin and Skye Foster who both ran well to finish 24th and 26th place respectively.

In the U13 boys we also had two athletes running, Alasdair Brown and Cameron Chambers who both  ran strongly to finish 28th and 37th place.

We had no U15 girls competing today but the U15 boys race produced the highlight of the day for Lasswade where Harry Henriksen showed his class and a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field to win.

We had no U17 athletes competing either boys or girls.

Sarah Tait continued her good form this season to finish in 6th place in the U20 women’s race. In the U20 men’s race Sarah’s brother Magnus also ran very well to match his sister also finishing 6th.

In senior women’s race we had two athletes Keira Gore who had a strong run to finish just outside the top 10 in 12th place and team mate Rachel Fagan also ran well to finish 41st.

The final race of the day was the Senior Men’s race and we had four athletes with Martin Gore having a solid run to lead the team home in 45th place, next home was Andrew McGlone in 102nd, Stephen Brown in 153rd with Derrick Brydon coming home in 169th to complete the team.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Aberdeen and congratulations to everyone on their performances.

37th Open Cross Country Meeting

First off, a huge thanks to all the volunteers who turned out for yesterdays Cross Country. It goes without saying that without those people giving up their time to help out events such as this just would not take place. Also thanks to all the athletes, and family / friends etc, who travelled through to the meeting. It is great to have so many clubs, schools and individuals represented on the day.

Thankfully the weather was kind for us, and we had a great days racing, with fantastic performances right across the age groups.

Results for yesterday can be found here:     Cross Country Results PDF Unscrutinised

These are unscrutinized results, so if anyone spots any errors or ommissions please get in touch to let us know.

East District Cross Country Relays – Glamis Castle – 13/10/2018

The first of this season’s cross country races took place at Glamis Castle just north of Dundee on a very wet Saturday afternoon. The event was at the same venue last year and although the course was unchanged the conditions made it very different from last year.

Lasswade AC had one young female team, one young male team, one complete women’s team,  one incomplete women’s team and two men’s teams.

The first race off was the young females (Skye Foster, Olivia Meikle and Abby McGlone), unfortunately we had no under 15 runner so Olivia Meikle ran the U15 leg. The girls performed admirably to finish 20th overall.

Next race was the young males (Alasdair Brown, Ross Wolfenden and Harry Henriksen) who were in a similar position to the girls with one U13 moving up to run the U15 leg as our U15, Harry Henriksen ran the U17 leg. The boys ran very well to finish 9th overall. Ross Wolfenden was 5th fastest U13 of the day and Harry Henriksen was the fastest leg for U15 boys.

The ladies were next to the start line with Keira Murray and Rachel Fagan leading our teams off. Keira ran well coming home to hand over to Sarah Tait in 11th place and Rachel handed over to Debra Urquhart in 38th place. Sarah ran a strong leg to pass on to final leg runner Niamh Shaw in 9th place and Debra came in 33rd with no 3rd runner. Niamh ran well on the last leg to finish in 11th place.

The final race of the day was the men and we had one U20 team and a mixed team of seniors and vets. First leg runners were Matthew Smith and Martin Gore with Matthew running very well to hand over in 3rd place to Magnus Tait. Magnus had a strong run to keep us in contention handing over in 4th place just behind 3rd to team mate Euan Hood. Euan who has been concentrating on shorter distances over the summer had to work hard over the longer distance and handed over in 11th place to final leg runner Christian Graham.  Christian one of the outstanding U17 cross country runners from last winter and just getting back from a foot injury had a solid run to pull back a couple of places finishing 9th.

In our other team Martin had ran a solid leg to hand over in 22nd place to Peter Ness.  Peter the first of our masters ran well to hand on in 32nd to Andrew McGlone. There was only a slight change on the third leg with Andrew pretty much maintaining his team’s position passing on to final leg runner Derrick Brydon in 33rd place. Derrick a new member in his first race for the club acquitted himself very well to finish 37th.

There was some encouraging individual performances with Matthew Smith running the 2nd quickest and Magnus Tait 7th quickest U20 on the day.

Well done to everyone who took part – looking forward to Stirling next week.

Congratulations to Lasswade AC lady Amy Frankland who was part of the winning Edinburgh University Team – great race – well done!
