There will be no water available to athletes after the race, you will need to bring your own water, also you will need to bring with you 4 pins to attach your number.
It would be greatly appreciated if some of the parents could stay and help Marshall the course, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Lasswade High School emerged as winners of the 2017 Midlothian Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships on Tuesday. Runners up on the day were Penicuik, with Dalkeith High finishing in third. Also competing on the day were teams from St Davids and Newbattle.
Lasswade AC athletes had a good day, with a number coming away with medals. For a list of the event winners click on the link below.
The SSAA Secondary School Relay Championships also took place on Friday 2nd June. lasswade AC athlete Mia Downie was part of the Peebles High School Girls Team, which came away with a gold medal in the Girls 4 x 100m. Congratulations to Mia and the rest of the Team on a great achievement.
Also taking place last week was the Primary Schools championships. No results available yet, but again there were fine performances all round.
It was a tough day for Lasswade ACs young athletes, on Saturday, as they went into competition in the second of this seasons Forth Valley League Division One matches. The rain had been coming down long before athletes arrived at Meadowbank Stadium, and continued throughout the course of the afternoons match. Despite the conditions athletes from Lasswade, and the other 7 teams in competition, got on with things and managed to produce a high standard of competition.
First up on the rain soaked track was the Girls Under 15 200m races. In a great start to the day for Lasswade, Mia Downie ran superbly to take first place. Her time of 26.69 was a new personal best, and also moved her into the top ten rankings, in Scotland, for the year. Following up was Abbie Malinowski. In the tightest race of the day Abbie was beaten into second, by photo finish, by Dunfermline athlete Erin Thomson. Both athletes recording times of 27.52. After being out for a while Abbie is now getting back to somewhere near her best, and Saturdays time moves her into the toptwenty rankings for the year.
Elsewhere in the 200m there was a raft of new personal bests for Lasswade athletes. In the Under 15 boys both Adam Leighton and Aonghus Spence managed to beat their previous bests. The Under 13 runners of Skye Foster, Phoebe Kong, Alastair Scott and Max Sharman also managed new best times. Not to be outdone, Abbie Foster and Ramsay Blair also managed new bests in the Under 11 competition.
The highlight of the distance events was Hannah Harley’s run in the Under 11s 600m event. Taking it out fast from the start Hannah built up a lead over the rest of the field, which she never looked in danger of surrendering. Coming home, in a new personal best time of 1.57.15, Hannah finished well ahead of second placed runner Eilidh Ovenstone from Corstorphine.
While conditions underfoot were difficult on the track, the field events arguably had it worse. In the High Jump Lasswade Athletes Adam Leighton and Michelle Blaikie both took top spot in the Under 15s. Adam winning with a jump of 1.60m and Michelle with a jump of 1.50m. Excellent performances considering the conditions.
Also out in the track, despite a treacherous run up, Alec Miller produced a big new personal best in the javelin with a throw of 15.13m. Not far behind, in his first competition, was fellow Under 13 athlete Jan Rochon, with a throw of 13.50m. As the day wore on conditions were starting to affect most of the events. Run up areas and the track were becoming more dangerous and at one point a snow shovel was brought out to clear standing water from the shot putt circle.
There were a number of athletes competing for the first time as well. Not the best of days to get their first taste of competition for the club, but they all did a fantastic job.
As the relays approached it was becoming clear that conditions were getting the better of the day. With the track becoming increasingly dangerous, and concern for athlete safety, the decision was made to cancel the running of the relays.
Despite two fine team performances Lasswade find themselves in 7th place in the league, but only one point behind Central AC in 6th. With the two teams finishing in 7th and 8th getting relegated, everything now rests on a strong team performance by Lasswade in the third and final match of the season. The final match of the season takes place at Grangemouth Stadium on the 24th June.
Thanks to Mark Kinghorn, who was also stuck out in the rain, for the pictures.
Grangemouth Stadium was the venue for last weekends Scottish Athletics National Relay Championships. Lasswade AC took through four teams, three competing in the 4 x 100m sprint relays and one in the 3 x 800m race. On another successful day for the club two teams came away with medals. With the U15 Girls and U17 boys ( 4 x100m ) both breaking the previous Club Record Time for their events.
The Girls Under 15 team was made up of Anna Burnside, Mia Downie, Elena Clarke and Abbie Malinowski. In the morning heats the girls posted a new Club Record time of 52.05 to qualify third fastest for the final, behind Central AC and Edinburgh AC. Another fine run in the final secured the Bronze medal for the team, with Gold going to Edinburgh AC and Silver to Central AC. The girls final time of 52.22, although not quite as fast as in qualifying, also beat the previous Club Record for the event.
The3 x 800m relays took place in the afternoon, being decided in a one off final for each age group. Lasswade AC had one team entered at this distance, the Mens Under 17 team of Euan Hood, Magnus Tait and Christian Graham. In a hard fought race the Lasswade team ran a strong race throughout, finishing with a well earned Bronze medal, in a time of 6.21.95. Winners on the day were Falkirk Victoria Harriers with Kilbarchan finishing runners up.
Two other Lasswade AC teams were in action on the day with both producing fine performances. The Girls Under 17 team of Stephanie Ogg, Georgia Jones, Heather Mack and Shona Gristwood ran a fine race, finishing in a time of 53.39, unfortunately this left them outside of the medals.
The Mens U17 team was made up of Lewis Kerr, Jordan Bathgate, Angus Cousin and Murray Blair. A time of 48.31s in the second of the mornings heats was enough not only to secure qualification for the final, but break the previous Club Record for this event by some distance. The previous record had stood at 50.10s.
The provision results are now in for last weekends Lothian and Borders Trials. These have yet to be finalized, so if you see any problems with your results please report it to Edinburgh AC to be updated.
The Scottish 4 x 100m Relay Age Group Championships take place at Grangemouth Stadium on Saturday 22 April, and the club would like to put teams in to the event. We plan to enter teams in the U13, U15 & U17 Boys and Girls Age Groups.
The provisional timetable shows the relays starting at 10:45am and finishing at 1.00pm.

The club’s annual AGM will be taking place this Wednesday, 15th March, at Newbattle Golf Club. Start time is 7.00pm. In addition to the AGM the annual Endeavour Awards and Cross Country Awards will be presented to athletes. Freya Ross, who recently came along to give a presentation for the club, has agreed to come along and make the presentations.
After starting out with Lasswade AC, Freya has gone on to have a highly successful career in athletics. Among her many achievements she has represented GB, in the marathon, at the 2012 Olympics and Scotland, in the 5000 and 10000m at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It will be great to have her back to make the presentations to our current crop of athletes.
Everyone involved with the club is welcome to come along on the night, and we are hoping that as many of our award winners as possible will be able to attend.

New amended results are now available for last weekends Ten Mile Road Race.
Changes are included to the results of the Men’s Team Event where Harmeny AC move into third position, and all the teams below move up a place. Additionally an error on entry central led to Damien O’Looney, Harmeny AC, missing out on the First Vets Prize on the day. This has now been sorted out, so congratulations to Damien and apologies to anyone affected by changes in the results.
Again many thanks to all the athletes, officials, marshalls, volunteers, first aiders, police and caterers for their support on the day.
