National Age Champs

A good day’s work with some fine performances. Well done to all.

Two silvers and three bronze medals for Lasswade athletes this afternoon. Two silvers for Lauren Dickson in the U 17 , 800 & 1500. Rachel Robertson in the women’s long jump and Robert Ferguson in the men’s High jump. Bryony Patterson got bronze in the U17 Triple Jump

Final places for Ailsa Innes 5th in the 800 and Cameron Steven 6th in the men’s 800

PBs for Jamie English in the Long Jump and equalled in the High Jump. Good results after long injury.

PB for Rachel Elder in 60m H

PBs for Euan Hood and Magnus Tait in the u17 800 and 1500 respectively.

PB for Bryony Patterson in the Long Jump

And just outside the medals for Sarah Tait in 4th in U17, 1500.

Lasswade Road Race – assistance sought

Roll up, roll up. Assistance needed

Ruth Szymanski is STILL looking for some volunteers to assist prepare after race buffet for the Lasswade Road Race on Sunday 6 March 2016. Required from around 1000- 1500 hrs. While she is happy to see returning faces she is also after some NEW volunteers.

These events don’t run themselves so if you can spare a few hours and fancy helping Ruth out either contact her at elkasaruma@hotmail.co.uk or through CDO Brian hood at brianh3010@gmail.com so that she can coordinate the process.

East Lothian Cross Country

For anyone looking for another cross country race prior to the National Cross Country Championships at Falkirk there is an event in East Lothian on 6th February.

I think it is a fairly new race so not one that I am familiar with however it is good to support these events.

Inter District Championships – Edinburgh – 09/01/2016

The Inter District Championships were held yesterday at Holyrood Park as part of the Great Edinburgh Cross Country event. There were eight athletes from Lasswade AC representing the East District team. All of the athletes performed well in some cases picking up team medals.

The finishing positions were as follows:

U13 Boys – Harry Henriksen 6th – (Gold Team Medal – East Team 1st)
U13 Girls – Hannah Little 28th

U15 Boys- Magnus Tait 8th (Silver Team Medal – East Team 2nd)
U15 Boys – Euan Hood 18th
u15 Girls – Sarah Tait 5th (Silver Team Medal – East Team 2nd)

U17 Men – Matthew Smith 32nd
U17 Women – Lauren Dickson 5th (Gold Team Medal – East Team 1st)
U17 Women – Ailsa Innes 23rd

Young Athletes Induction Course 1/16

Lasswade AC are now actively seeking names of young athletes aged 8-11 years to join our next induction group. This 10 week block offers athletes the opportunity to try all athletic disciplines. The courses are due to start Monday 1 February 2016 and Thursday 4 February 2016. Cost : £20 for the course.

New Year Sprint (part 2) 1 January 2016

In today’s New Year Sprint at Musselburgh Race Course, two of the club’s athletes made the final, finishing in 3rd and 4th place.

Keiran Reilly and Jordan Charters both won their semi-finals, while Charlie Carstairs finished 4th in his race and missed out on qualification for the final.

In a tight final Keiran just pipped Jordan for 3rd place, clocking 11.44s to Jordan’s 11.45s.

New Year sprint report

On Wednesday 30th December, in difficult conditions – in the middle of ‘Storm Frank’ – four Lasswade athletes competed in the heats for the 147th New Year Sprint at Meadowmill Sports Centre.

In the main event – the 110m Handicap – Jordan Charters, Keiran Reilly and Charlie Carstairs all won their heats to qualify for the semi finals on New Year’s Day, while Rachel Robertson finished 2nd in her heat, but unfortunately didn’t qualify this year.

Rachel also competed in the women’s only event, winning her heat and going on to finish sixth in the final.

Keiran completed a fine day for the club’s sprinters winning the 90m final and 1st prize of £300.

Well done to all the athletes and good luck to Jordan, Keiran and Charlie as they chase the title and first prize of £4000 at Musselburgh Race Course on New Year’s Day.
