Grangemouth – Mondo Track- Spikes requirement

With the new Mondo track laid down at Grangemouth , there are rules over the spikes allowed to be worn by athletes.

Grangemouth staff have asked us to make clear that because the surface is not rubber crumb, there will be No needle/pin spikes allowed outdoors.

The recommended spike usage for a Mondo surface is Christmas tree or Pyramid spikes. These can be ceramic or steel and are available to purchase from reception at a cost of £9.
Please note that staff will be checking athlete’s spikes when outdoors is open again and any athlete found to be wearing needle spikes will be asked to remove them immediately.

It is important that all Grangemouth users co-operate on this as clearly it is important the new track isn’t quickly damaged.

Remember it is the Athletes responsibility to ensure they have the appropriate spikes

Athletes can purchase them cheaper and shops like Run and Become, or on line from www.neuff.co.uk
Recommended spike usage for Mondo:
50m-400m: 1/8? 3/16? or 1/4? (3,5 or 7mm) Christmas Tree
800m-1500m: 1/4? (7mm) Pyramid or Christmas Tree
3000m-10,000m: 3/16? (5mm) Pyramid
Pole Vault: 1/4? (7mm) Pyramid or Christmas Tree
Javelin: 1/4? – 1/2? (7-13mm) Pyramid
High Jump: 1/4? – 3/8? (7-9mm) Pyramid
Long Jump: 1/4? (7mm) Pyramid
Triple Jump: 1/4? (7mm) Pyramid

National Age Championships. 14 & 15 February 2015

Not a huge number of Lasswade athletes competing last weekend at the Emirates however those that were there did themselves and the club proud. None more so than Adam Leighton who got the Gold in the U13 Boys High Jump on Saturday equalling his PB in the process. Adam was also 4th in the Long Jump

East District Cross Country League Match 3 – 17 January 2015

The final of this seasons East District Cross Country League matches took place on Saturday at Broxburn. Numbers taking part for the club were better than the previous match in Alloa but it was still disappointing to have quite a few incomplete teams.

There had been some snow on Friday and there were a couple of inches in Livingston with conditions worse the further west you got. There was still an amber weather warning in place for this area of Scotland but although cold and with a dusting of snow conditions were much better than expected at Broxburn.

The first race of the day was the under 11 girls but unfortunately we had no runners in this race. Next it was the turn of the under 11 boys and we had four runners in this race. Lasswade athlete Harry Henriksen was a clear winner maintaining his unbeaten record over the cross country this winter. Next home with another good performance was Cameron Dickson in 24th place followed by Alec Miller and Alastair Scott finishing 44th and 57th respectively. Both boys were running in their first cross country race for the club.

In the under 13 girls Hannah Little led the team home with a good run finishing in 14th place. Ellie Baxter was our next counter in 41st place followed closely by team mate Kaerdy McDonald running her first cross country for the club and finishing in 43rd place. Mia Downie also running in her first cross country for the club finished in 52nd.

Next it was the under 13 boys with Kurt Robertson our only runner. Kurt ran well and had a good run to finish in 26th position. In the under 17 men we again only had one runner Kyle McKenzie who ran a solid race to finish in 21st place. The ladies were the next race and it was another solo performance with Cathy Dickson the only Lasswade runner. Cathy ran very well to finish in 60th place (17th vet).

The next race was the under 15 boys with Jamie Darling, Thomas Snodgrass and Daniel Kelly making up the team.  Jamie led the boys home in 20th place with Thomas next in 30th and Daniel after almost missing the start working his way through the field to finish in 36th place.

The penultimate race of the day was the under 15/17 girls race and we had a full compliment of runners. Lauren Dickson who has been running consistently well this season produced another fine run to finish 2nd behind Kate Gallagher of Central. Next home for Lasswade was Sarah Tait who again has ran consistently well and finished strongly in 6th place (after going for a dip half way round).  Keanna McInnes had a good run and was our third counter in 24th place followed by Lauren Wilkie who had worked her way through the field to finish 29th. Caroline McKinlay who was running with a sore knee should have pulled out but kept it going and finished in 33rd with Eilidh Brown close behind in 36th place.

The final race of the day was the senior men and we had a full team for this race as well! Martin Gore had a strong run to finish in 42nd, he was followed by Colin Menzies in his first cross country for …… a long time with a good run in 61st.  Ben Mitchell had a strong run in in 82nd (17th vet) with team mate Scott Dickson also running well to finish 120th (40th vet) and Doug McDonald not too far back in 142nd. Brian Wilson completed the team in 205th (101st vet).

Finally congratulations to our under 15 girls who finished 2nd in the league this season. The girls have turned up for every race and have ran consistently well over the three league matches so fully deserve their second place. Well done also to the under 15 boys who finished 6th in the league.
