Dear Parents,
As with  every club championship we are looking for your help now. Donations of filled rolls, homebaking, raffle and tombola prizes. The filled rolls and baking are sold as part of our fundraising for the club. Tea and coffee will also be sold on the day.
Donations for Tombola and Raffle can be brought along to any training night and handed to myself, Margaret Benham or Linda Smith with the food items to be brought on the day of the Championships.
Anyone willing to help on the day, please let me (Ruth Szymanski) know as soon as possible and a rota will be created. You will not miss out on your athletes perfomances.
Join us in what is always a fun filled day.

Message from Ross Matheson

Lasswade athlete Ross Matheson has just moved to the USA to study at the University of New Mexico,  Albuquerque. Ross will hopefully be posting regularly on our website to let us know how things are going in the states so please remember to check it out for updates. Ross is also on twitter https://twitter.com/MathesonRoss for those of you who use twitter.

In the meantime David Hand contacted Ross to see how he was settling in and Ross sent the following reply.

Arrived safely and settling in well.  The weather is good and I seem to be coping with the altitude pretty well.  I have only been doing easy runs this week to try to acclimatise,  I will do my first session next week.

Congratulations to the men’s team on the result in Aberdeen. That’s an achievement in itself to stay in division 1, hopefully with a stronger team next year we’ll see us moving into the top spots overall for the league.

I saw Guy’s result which is great. Hopefully with consistent injury free training me and Greg can join him in the run up to the games.

It was good hearing from you.

Speak soon,

Ross

Message From Guy Learmonth

Lasswade athlete Guy Learmonth who recently ran a Commonwealth Games standard time in Antwerp sent the following message to the club via David Hand who had passed on a message of congratulations from all at the club.

Great to hear from you and many thanks for the congratulations messages!  It’s been a difficult start to the season for a few reasons but all you can do is keep knuckling down and eventually you’ll overcome them.  I have until next June to run the Commonwealth Games standard time once more and then I’ll be there.

Great to hear that the Lasswade  Men’s team stayed in Division One.  I am sorry I couldn’t race at any of the meetings this year but have literally been travelling all over Europe and was unfortunately never in the country when the boys were racing otherwise I would loved to done my bit for the team.  It’s great to see Ross Matheson and Greg Louden doing so well,  hopefully they can both get into the Team for Glasgow next year.  Imagine three Lasswade athletes representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games……not bad for our club!

Keep me posted with everything and send my regards to everyone at the club.

Speak soon!

Guy

Commonwealth Games Standard for Guy Learmonth

Guy Learmonth ran a Commonwealth Games standard time in Antwerp on Saturday evening when he finished in a time of 1:47.41 for the 800m.

That’s just inside the 1:47.50 required, and Guy will now be looking to get under that mark again – either in the remainder of this season or indoors, when one qualifying standard is allowed as per the policy.

‘It has been tough this year with a few obstacles but I’m getting into better form now,’ said the Lasswade AC athlete.

‘I feel I am one step closer to Hamdpden now with that time under my belt and it is a case of on to the next race.’
