Lasswade athlete Ross Matheson has just moved to the USA to study at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Ross will hopefully be posting regularly on our website to let us know how things are going in the states so please remember to check it out for updates. Ross is also on twitter https://twitter.com/MathesonRoss for those of you who use twitter.
In the meantime David Hand contacted Ross to see how he was settling in and Ross sent the following reply.
Arrived safely and settling in well. The weather is good and I seem to be coping with the altitude pretty well. I have only been doing easy runs this week to try to acclimatise, I will do my first session next week.
Congratulations to the men’s team on the result in Aberdeen. That’s an achievement in itself to stay in division 1, hopefully with a stronger team next year we’ll see us moving into the top spots overall for the league.
I saw Guy’s result which is great. Hopefully with consistent injury free training me and Greg can join him in the run up to the games.
It was good hearing from you.
Speak soon,
Ross
Guy Learmonth ran a Commonwealth Games standard time in Antwerp on Saturday evening when he finished in a time of 1:47.41 for the 800m.
That’s just inside the 1:47.50 required, and Guy will now be looking to get under that mark again – either in the remainder of this season or indoors, when one qualifying standard is allowed as per the policy.
‘It has been tough this year with a few obstacles but I’m getting into better form now,’ said the Lasswade AC athlete.
‘I feel I am one step closer to Hamdpden now with that time under my belt and it is a case of on to the next race.’
