Golden day for club at Scottish U18 & U20 Championships

It was a golden day for the club’s athletes at today’s U18 & U20 Age Group Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

Ellen Kristoffersen set the ball rolling in the morning by winning the U18 Women’s Long Jump (5.41m), before further golds followed from Katie Purves in an impressive 60m Hurdles comeback (8.89s), Jordan Charters, U20 Men’s Long Jump (6.48m), and Robert Ferguson U20 Men’s High Jump (1.95m).

There was further success in the U18 Women’s age group as Ellen took silver in the High Jump (1.65m), and Rachel Robertson bronze in the Triple Jump (10.73m).  Rachel also finished 4th in the Long Jump (5.20m).

Sophie Elder finished 6th in the U20 Women’s 400m final (63.10), and Jordan Charters finished 2nd in his 200m heat (23.78s).

It was encouraging to see a good number of club athletes competing at this level – well done to them all, and good luck to our athletes competing in the U14 & U16 Age Group Championships tomorrow.

NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – FALKIRK 23/02/2013

The National Cross Country Championships took place last weekend in Falkirk.

The day started off cold but by the time the races started at 11.30 the sun was out and it was a beautiful day. The entries for the event as a whole were up and it was great to see so many Lasswade AC athletes competing in the biggest event of the Scottish Cross Country calendar.  Lasswade were represented in most age groups the exceptions being U15 girls and U20 women.

The highlight of the day for Lasswade AC was the Men’s U20 event which was won by Ross Matheson who looked comfortably in control throughout the race before moving clear in the final stretch for victory.   Congratulations Ross!

In the under 13 boys there was a large field of 130 competitors with Magnus Tait , who has been running consistently well  over the winter, the first Lasswade AC finisher in 11th position. Our next finisher was Jamie Darling in 90th followed closely by Craig Gallagher in 91st and Josh Grahame in 95th, Ross Mackenzie was 112th with Euan Mackay 123rd and Euan McAllister our final team member in 127th.

The under 13 girls were next off with another large field of 127 runners.  Lauren Dickson just back after having missed  four weeks training with a knee injury was the first Lasswade AC girl finishing a creditable 19th, closely followed by Sarah Tait 20th, our next finisher was Caroline McKinlay in 94th and the final member of the team Lauren Wilkie in 104th.

In the under 15 boys we had two runners in the field of 112 with Cameron Steven the leading Lasswade AC athlete in 73rd and Matthew Smith 81st.

Our only under 17 woman, Amy Frankland,  had another good run to finish 10th out of the field of 49 runners.  In the under 17 men we had two runners in the field of 79 runners,  Iain Lawson who finished 43rd closely followed by Callum Clark in 47th.

The women’s race had a field of 214 runners and we had three veteran runners representing Lasswade AC with Linden Nicholson being our first finisher in 142nd place (I noticed that if there was an age group category Linden would have been first F60 and was also 2nd in F55 and 13th F50) Wilma Kerr was next in 163rd and Lorna Rice in 204th.

The final event of the day was the men’s race with the biggest field of 503 runners.  Lasswade AC had seven runners  including five veterans. Our first finisher was Barney Phillips in 50th place, next was the first of our veterans, Andrew Matheson 178th (6th Over 50), followed by John Murray in 194th,  Ben Mitchell 244th,  Scott Dickson 317th,  Phil Parr-Burman 404th and Brian Wilson our final runner in 477th.

Well done to all the athletes who competed on the day.

Four of the team (Sarah Szymanski, Sophie Elder, Ellen Kristoffersen and Rachel Robertson) also competed in the 4 x 200m Relay competition, where they finished second to add another silver medal to their tally.

The club also had an U20 men’s team (Charlie Carstairs, Sean Hadden, Jordan Charters and Elson Musenga) who finished second in their heat of the 4 x 200m Relay, and an U13 Boys’ team (Murray Blair, Brodie McQuorquodale, Connor McCabe and Guy McGarry ) who finished 4th in their heat.

Summer 2013 T&F Fixtures Updated

Mark Szymanski has adapted  the summer fixture’s list into a spreadsheet and added a few extras to assist parents and athletes.  Mark designed it specifically to help new parents and athletes, however I am sure it will be of  assistance to existing athletes and parents who may not be aware of  some of these competitions and the process to enter their child.
Please click Outdoor Meetings 2013 (3) to view fixture list
If you have any questions then please speak to Mark or any of the coaches at training.
Thanks

Scottish Schools’ Indoor Athletics Championships

Several of the club’s athletes were representing their schools at the Scottish Schools’ Athletics Association Indoor Championships at the Emirates Commonwealth Arena, Glasgow, on Thursday.

Top performers at the event were Ellen Kristoffersen and Rachel Robertson who maintained their impressive Scottish Schools’ Championships record over the years, as they both again returned home with medals. (Another two top performers from the club were officials Kenny Marshall and Dave McConnell, who put in a near twelve hour shift down on the track – they must be fit!)

Ellen, who had finished 5th in the Pole Vault (2.70m), the previous day, was in top form as she jumped 1.65m in the Over 16 Girls’ High Jump to take the gold medal.

It was a long day for Rachel, who won silver in the Over 16 Girls’ Long Jump (5.30m) in the morning, then in the afternoon won her 200m heat and semi-final to qualify for the final, where she finished in second place, before collecting her medal, switching the arena lights off, and going home at 8 o’ clock!

I have included some other results below, if anyone has any further info on placings, times, or any athletes that I’ve missed, please contact me, and I’ll update the post – email: rtbhq1@googlemail.com or text:07958 595790.
