The first of this season’s East District Cross Country League races was held at Stirling University campus on 20/10/2012. It was a mild and dry afternoon, however the heavy rain during the week ensured the course was nice and muddy for those taking part.
There was a good turnout for Lasswade with athletes in every age group except the under 11 boys. In total 29 Lasswade athletes took part – thanks and well done to everyone!
In the under 11 girls we had two athletes taking part, Rachel Mair and Courtney Simpson who finished 24th and 34th respectively.
Our under 13 boys fielded a complete team with Magnus Tait our first finisher in 6th place, followed by Ross Mackenzie (31st), Jamie Darling (33), Euan Mackay (36th) and Euan McAlister (50th). Our under 13 girls also fielded a complete team with Sarah Tait our first finisher in 7th place, followed by Caroline McKinlay (26th) and Lauren Wilkie (33rd).
In the under 15 boys race Kyle Mackenzie led the Lasswade boys home finishing in 22nd place, followed by Matthew Smith (29th), Calum Grahame (40th) and new team member Louis Crosland who finished 43rd in his first Cross Country race.
The under 15 and under 17 girls are incorporated in the same race but unfortunately we did not have a complete team. Amy Frankland ran a strong race to finish in 3rd place overall (2nd under 17) with Sabina Jedrzesczyk finishing 38th overall (25th under 15).
In the under 17 boys Jamie Cousin led the team home in 14th place with Iain Lawson and Calum Clarke not too far behind in 18th and 19th place respectively.
We had a Vets team in the women’s race with Lorna Rice leading them home in 66th place, Linden Nicolson (71st) and Karen McKinlay (83rd).
The men’s race over three laps was a good race dominated by Central AC whose runners filled the first three places. Not too far behind the leaders Lasswade’s Ross Matheson broke free of Andrew Crichton on the final lap to finish fourth overall and first Junior. Barney Phillips also Lasswade finished well inside the top ten in 7th position. John Murray now back living in Scotland was our next finisher in 23rd place followed by Martin Gore in his first outing of the season finishing 38th. Our next two finishers were Ben Mitchell 83rd and our new team member Paul Belamy in 128th.

We need to try and ensure we continue to field complete teams for the remaining two matches so please take a note of the date of the next league meeting at Livingston on 24/11/2012.
