Katherine Szymanski was also competing in the triple jump, jumping 9.98m.
Well done to all athletes.
The final East District League Match of the season took place at Broxburn on Saturday 14/01/2012. It was great to see so many Lasswade athletes taking part, in total there were twenty four running.
The first race of the day was the under 11 age group and we had seven boys and one girl in the race. Lasswade got off to a fantastic start with Magnus Tait finishing 2nd, Josh Grahame 5th and Fraser Judge 10th to complete the Lasswade ‘A’ team. Craig Gallagher led the ‘B’ team home in 34th with Adam McDonald, Euan McAllister and Angus Cousin finishing 55th, 57th and 58th respectively. The ‘A’ team finished 2nd on the day and 3rd overall in the league this season. The ‘B’ team finished 14th on the day.
In the girls race Sarah Tait was the only Lasswade athlete and ran a great race to finish in 6th position. The team finished 11th on the day and 8th overall for the season.
The next race was the under 13 age group. In this race we had four boys and two girls competing. Cameron Steven led the Lasswade athletes home finishing in 15th, Thomas Snodgrass was 17th, Matthew Smith 28th and Ross McKenzie 40th. The boys finished 7th team on the day and 5th overall for the season.
In the girls race Lauren Dickson ran another good race to finish 7th with team mate Lauren Wilkie finishing well in 27th. The team finished 10th on the day and 11th over the season.
Two Lasswade athletes competed in the under 15 boys race. Iain Lawson finished in 23rd place followed home by team mate Kyall McKenzie in 28th. The team finished 11th on the day and 7th overall for the season.
In the girls combined u15/u17 race we had two girls competing. Amy Frankland ran a strong race to finish 5th under 17 (7th overall) and Sophie Miller finished 17th under 15 (31st overall). The team finished 12th on the day and 7th overall for the season.
Calum Clark was the only Lasswade athlete in the under 17 men’s race finishing in 19th place. The team finished 9th on the day and 8th overall for the season.
Unfortunately, we had no women running today, Keira who won here last year has a bit of an injury and Lorna Rice intended to run but went to the wrong venue. The team was 26th overall this season.
The final event of the day was the men’s race and we had five athletes running. It was a good race at the front of the field for the first couple of laps with about six athletes in contention including two Lasswade runners Ross Matheson and Barney Phillips. It was just before the start of the final lap that the gaps began to appear and Ross and Barney began to drop off the pace, however they had a little battle between themselves for 5th and 6th position with Ross proving too strong finishing in 5th and Barney 6th. Our next counter was the fastest finisher in the field Martin Gore in 41st, Richard Connor finished in 73rd and Brian Wilson was our final runner in 204th. The men finished 16th team on the day and the same position overall for the season.
Lasswade finished 6th in the league for the males (all age groups) and in the females (all age groups) we were 10th.
Well done to everyone who competed today and in the other league matches over the cross country season.

The East District Cross Country Championships took place in Aberdeen last weekend. The number of entrants on the whole was down and that was reflected in the number of Lasswade athletes taking part with only 13 athletes making the trip north. Unfortunately, this meant that we had no complete teams in any age group.
The conditions on the day were very cold and the ground was hard underfoot. In the Under 13 girls which was the first race of the day, Lauren Dickson got the club off to a great start with a fine run to finish 6th overall. In the next race, the Under 13 boys, Matthew Smith finished 22nd and Cameron Steven, who has had injury problems, had to pull out.
Amy Frankland who has been running consistently well this cross country season ran a good race to finish 9th in the Under 17 women’s race with team mate Amy Smith pulling out. The next race was the Under 15 boys with Jamie Cousin the only Lasswade runner competing. Jamie who had been running well in recent league races was well up on the first lap in 4th place but dropped back on the second lap to finish 20th.
In the women’s race Keira Murray who had won the most recent league match ran well to finish 2nd overall just 10 seconds adrift of winner Jennifer MacLean. Our next Lasswade woman Lorna Rice finished in 70th place.
The final race of the day was the men’s race with five Lasswade athletes competing. Ross Matheson who has had a few injury problem’s this year had a solid run to finish 7th overall (2nd Under 20) with Barney Phillips running well to finish 9th. The fast uphill finishing Martin Gore was our next runner home with a good run to finish 42nd, followed by Richard Connor in 61st and Ben Mitchell in 67th.
Well done to everyone who took part and good luck to those of you selected for the inter district match in January.
