Congratulations to both Ellen Kristoffersen and Gareth Fleming who are both the 2011 National U16 Pentathlon Champions. Ellen was disappointed with her first couple of events however she eventually won with a score of 2902.
Gareth was the only U16 Boy entered for the competition and competed along side the U16 Girls as a guest with a final score of 2150. At the end of the day Gareth was rightly awarded the gold medal for his efforts.
The club also had U16 Girls and U18 Girls in action in the 3 x 800m Championships. The U16 Girls team (Katie Purves, Sophie Miller and Sally Redpath) finished 6th (8:11.24) and the U18 Girls (Amy Smith, Fiona Matheson and Amy Frankland) finished 2nd (7:32.22) but were non counters as the team was made up of one U16 and two U18s.
The club had two teams in the U14 Superteams competition at Grangemouth Stadium today. Both teams performed well with lots of PBs gained in the various events.
Each athlete had to do each of the three events, and run in the 4 x 100m relay. In the relay, the boys’ team finished second in their heat in a time of 59.99s, with the girls coming home fourth, clocking 59.7s.
The athletes’ results for the 200m, Long Jump and Shot Putt are below:
In miserable conditions – continuous rain and cool temperature (14 0C) – Scotland scored two excellent track wins in the Copenhagen Athletics Games in Denmark last night, Guy Learmonth (Lasswade) beating fellow Scot Stuart Ross (Glasgow) to win an 800 metres race in 1:50.15 and Edinburgh-based Jamie Bowie winning his 400m in 47.47.
Both Learmonth and his coach Henry Gray were thoroughly delighted with his performance and the 19-year-old Loughborough-based student will now bring the curtain down on his topsy-turvy outdoor season by helping his club Lasswade in the final Scottish League match which is scheduled to take place at Grangemouth on Sunday.
"I'm in good shape – there was a thunderstorm and a 45-minute delay before we ran and unlike the other race we'd no pacemaker," said Learmonth.
Congratulations and good luck to Ellen Kristoffersen (High Jump) and Katie Purves (80mH and 4 x 100 relay) who have been selected to represent Scotland at this weekend's Celtic Games in Antrim.
Following on from Robert and Katherine’s medal success on Saturday, the club’s athletes collected a further four medals at the National U16 Championships at Scotstoun on Sunday.
Ellen Kristoffersen took gold in the High Jump (1.60m), and the Long Jump (5.08m), Katie Purves won gold in the 80m Hurdles (12.05s), and Rachel Robertson collected the bronze medal in the Long Jump (4.98m).
Ellen also finished sixth in the 80m Hurdles (13.28s), and Sophie Collins and Erin Feeley both finished sixth in their events as well, Sophie in the 1500m (5:12.57), and Erin in the Discus (23.41m).
Well done to all the club’s athletes who competed over both days.
A number of Lasswade athletes took part in the under age 18 National Championships at Scotstoun. It was a fantastic day for athletics in fact maybe a little too hot. Everyone reached the final of their respective events so well done to you all!
Special mention to Katherine Szymanski who got a bronze medal in the Triple Jump and Robert Ferguson who got a silver in the High Jump. Congratulations to you both.
