CSSAL League Match 3 Results

Scrutinised result for the Central and South Scotland League have finally come through. We’ve been sitting on the provisional results for wee while and they had us on top by 26 points. With officials points to be added and some results missing, it was certainly too soon to celebrate… And in the end, it was close! That 26 point gap got whittled down to just 12 points and confirm that Lasswade finish as Division 3 Champions!

Well done to every athlete, official and parent who turned out for the last fixture – you all played a very important part to give us that 12 point lead. A good number of the team competed in new events for the first time and filled in gaps in the team sheet – an amazing team effort. Also, a big shout out to Mark Szymanski for filling in as Team Manager for the day at short notice.

Division 3 – Final Positions

Looking at the results on the day, strong winds prevented a lot of PBs on the track but as always there were some great performances and lots of first places.

Points aside, we always ask that our athletes try and improve on their bests and a number of athletes recorded personal bests at Kilmarnock.

PBs
Ollie – 200m and Long Jump
Ruairidh – 200m and SP
Ramsay – Discus
Will – 1500m
Ben – Long Jump
Alec – Long Jump and Discus
Lara – Long Jump
Leila – Long Jump, High Jump
Megan – Long Jump
Bethan – Long Jump

Eloise, Abbie, Olivia and Sophie B all ran their fastest 200m but because of the wind speed, technically not official PBs but still great performances and confirmation that they’re all in great shape.

Scrutinised Results – we’re aware that some 1500m times are not recorded and apologies to the athletes missing times. Hopefully the league will be able to track these down for you.

Well done again to everyone who competed and officiated over the course of the season and helped contribute to this fantastic result. All of this of course, is only possible with the amazing work that the club coaches, assistants and officials put in week-in, week-out. If you’re able to help out next season when we get to do it all again, please have a look at our volunteering page.

Training Fees

Following our AGM we have made the hard decision to increase our training fees from 1st September 2023.

The need for this has arisen due a doubling in the cost of hiring the training facilities this year, which can no longer be met by the current training fees. It is the first time there has been an increase in fees in over 12 years.

The monthly training fees will go up to £10 per month for athletes training once weekly and £20 per month for those training twice weekly. As previously there will be a 25% reduction for second and subsequent members of the same family making the fees for these £7.50 monthly for 1 session weekly and £15 monthly for twice weekly sessions.

If there any problems with the increases, please get in touch with one of the committee members in confidence.

Please can all members amend their standing orders accordingly from 1st September 2023. (N.B the club cannot alter the amounts collected so members must amend their own standing order either through online banking or by going into their bank).

Thank you very much in anticipation of your cooperation.

GB Orienteering Selection for Laurence Ward

Last weekend Laurence travelled to Bulgaria to represent Great Britain in the European Youth Orienteering Championships. He was selected as one of the 4 U16 boys in the 16 strong team after a good set of results earlier in the season.

The first day was the sprint distance which is a 12 – 15 minute fast paced event held in an urban and parkland environment.  Laurence held his head well in his first major international competition and finished in 20th place out of 98 starters, first Brit in his age class and one of the best British results of the competition.

The next day was the long distance event which was around an hour of running over a forested hillside. This was a tough physical and technical challenge unlike any areas at home, and despite losing time on some tricky legs, Laurence pushed hard to get a solid result.

These first two results earned Laurence a place in the relay team.  This consisted of three legs of about 30 mins in the forest. Unlike the individual events which are time trials where everyone runs the same course, the relay is a mass start, but with teams having slightly different courses at different parts of the race. This makes for a high pressure environment where it is easy to be distracted by other runners going in slightly different directions after a few common controls. The U16 boys acquitted themselves well finishing in 7th place, a tantalising 1 second away from 6th which earns an international diploma, and the best British result of the day.

Overall the trip was a fantastic experience and Laurence is motivated to try to achieve selection again for next year’s championships.

CSSAL – Match 3

This will be taking place on Sunday 23rd July at Kilmarnock.

This is open to all members from Under 11s to Masters athletes. After the first two matches, it’s pretty much neck and neck between Lasswade and Corstorphine at the top of the table so it would be really good to get another strong team out to secure promotion.

If you’re interested in competing, please declare your interest using this form as soon as possible

The timetable of events is here.
