Scottish Indoor League Champions!

Congratulations to our U15 Girls’ team who ended the 2009/10 indoor season in style by claiming the Scottish Athletics Indoor League title at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on Sunday.

The girls also took the bronze medal in the 4 x 200m relay held at the same arena.

The team consisted of Erin Feeley, Megan Fleming, Ellen Kristoffersen, Fiona Matheson, Katie Purves and Rachel Robertson ,  with Megan, Katie, Ellen and Rachel competing in the relay competition.

First up was the relay heat, in which the girls produced a confident performance to win comfortably and progress to the final.

With their qualification for the relay final in the bag, the girls could concentrate on the main event – the league final.  First up was the high jump, with Ellen jumping 1.50m to take first place and set the tone for the rest of the day.  This was followed by a fantastic PB time of 8.11 secs as Katie won the 60m.

With the next three events running in quick succession, the team sent out a message to their rivals as Rachel won the long jump with 4.92m, Katie won the hurdles in 9.29 secs (a new U15 Girls’ League Record), and Erin finished second in the shot putt with a new PB of 8.65m.

This put the girls in a strong position with three events to go, and when Fiona produced a huge PB of 2mins 33.33 secs finishing 3rd in the 800m, and Megan ran 31.19 secs finishing 5th in the 200m, the team only needed to finish fourth in the last event – the 300m to claim victory.  Rachel, cheered on by the rest of the team, produced a terrific finish in a thrilling race to finish second in a time of 46.11 secs.

As Rachel was met at the finishing line by her team mates, the celebrations began on the track and in the stand.  However, the girls soon had to focus on the relay final and they were determined to win another medal to complete the day.

The girls managed to deliver again, as Megan got the team of to a great start, and then a fantastic second leg from Katie put the team in a strong position.  Ellen ran the third leg really well and completed a good changeover to Rachel in the last leg who held of a strong Shettleston runner to finish third and spark of more celebrations.

It was a great performance over the whole day by all the girls in the team.

The team would like to say a big thank you to the support from the parents, Team Managers – Linda and Margaret, and the cheerleaders Lisa, Mhairi, Stephanie and Mairead !
