Scottish Closed Championships

Lasswade Athletics Club’s top young track and field athletes travelled to Glasgow recently to compete in the Scottish Closed Indoor Championships held over two days at The Kelvin Hall.

In the Under 15 Girls’ events Katie Purves won the 60m Hurdles, and finished runner up in the 60m sprint.  Rachel Robertson claimed the silver medal in the long jump, and also finished fourth in the 200m final, while Ellen Kristoffersen took the gold in the Pole Vault.  Megan Fleming competed in the long jump and recorded a personal best in the shot putt.  Gareth Fleming competed well in the U15 Boys’ Long Jump and 60m Hurdles.

In the Under 17 Girls events Francesca Benham won gold in the shot putt, and Sarah Szymanski finished second in her 300m heat, while Katherine Szymanski finished 7th in the high jump.

It was a good weekend for Lasswade’s athletes who now face a busy month in February with the Scottish Open Championships, Relay Championships and Scottish Indoor League matches as well as Scottish Schools Championships coming up.

Junior Relays – Kelvin Hall – Saturday 6 February 2010

For athletes selected to run in our U13 Girls/Boys and U15 Girls/Boys teams in the Junior Relays at Kelvin Hall on Saturday 6 February 2010 please make your own way to the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow  for 11.30am as the club has no organised transport to this event.    .

The intention is to sit where we normally sit for the Indoor League matches which is at the top left hand corner of  the arena.

Please remember to bring a packed lunch and drinks with you.   There are drinks machines but nowhere in the Kelvin Hall to purchase food.   Remember to make sure you have no more than 5mm spikes in as these will be checked by officials.

If for any reason you are unable to run please contact Gordon or Linda as soon as possible.

East District Cross Country League (Broxburn)

Congratulations to all athletes who competed in the final East District League race of the season on Saturday. After all of the recent snow the course proved to be challenging for competitors with parts of the course still covered with snow and ice and other parts very marshy and muddy.
