LASSWADE ATHLETIC CLUB

The club received an email from Islay Running club regarding a marathon that they are holding, Content of email is below –

I’m the treasurer of the Islay Running Club & we help a local family organise the Islay Marathon, which is run in memory of their late son.

This year’s marathon is on Saturday 12th September at 10.30 am. The entry fee is reduced to £30 if you sign up before the 1st of July, it then increases to £40 – closing date is the 28th of August.

We would love to welcome more runners from across Scotland this year & wondered if you could spread the word with your members?

CSSAL is on Sunday 12th July at Grangemouth. This league is for athletes from U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, Sen & Masters age groups. Sign up by 30th June.

Unfortunately, due to the exceptionally large numbers of the travelling community that have settled at Dalkeith Campus, we have had to cancel the majority of the training sessions tonight (Monday 22nd June).
Senior Sprints and Kirk & Linda’s endurance groups will endeavour to train at Ironmills Park tonight at the usual times. All other groups – Multi-events, Junior Sprints and Jumps are cancelled.

Training for Thursday may also be affected, please check back for futher updates.

Lasswade AC is proud to celebrate the outstanding career of Guy Learmonth, who has announced he will retire at the end of this track season. From his early days as a talented club junior athlete to becoming one of Scotland’s fastest ever 800m runners, Guy’s journey has been remarkable.

He broke the Scottish U20 800m record multiple times, set national age?group championship records, and quickly rose to become one of Britain’s brightest young athletes. 

Guy went on to represent Scotland and Great Britain at the Commonwealth Games, European Championships, and World Indoor and Outdoor Championships, achieving a superb personal best of 1:44.73 – ranking him fourth all?time in Scotland.

A four?time British Indoor Champion and a consistent international performer, Guy has been an inspiration to athletes across the club and beyond.

Lasswade AC extends its warmest congratulations to Guy on an exceptional career and wishes him every success in the future. His achievements will remain a proud part of our club’s history.

Edinburgh AC have kindly offered spaces on their bus to Aberdeen. If anyone would like to make use of this, please include this in the comments on the form.

Please note that the 2nd match in the Scottish National Athletics League on Sunday 31st May is now scheduled to take place at Grangemouth and not Aberdeen. The 3rd match on 5th July will now take place at Aberdeen instead of Grangemouth.

This competition is for athletes in the Under 18, Under 20, Senior and Masters age groups.

Despite the track season now well under way, there were still a couple of Cross Country competitions recently where Lasswade’s athletes performed brilliantly.

Saturday 25th April saw the Scottish Primary Schools XC Championships take place at Kirkcaldy High School.

Finlay ran the perfect race to win the P6 race in a time of 6:38, with Nathan finishing 8th in the same race with a time of 7:04.

Isla H was 22nd in her P7 race with a time of 8:04s.

Nathan also took part in the Edinburgh Schools XC Championships just 2 days later and was victorious in the P6 boys race.

Well done to you all (hopefully we haven’t missed anyone – it’s always harder to spot athletes when they’re not in club colours!)

** Update 26th April 2026 **

Unfortunately,  the CSSAL League were unable to secure a new venue for the competition and have cancelled the fixture on the 10th May. 

With the announcement of the Scottish Premiership Post Split Fixtures, the CSSAL League have decided to move the venue for Division 1s second match which was due to take place at Crownpoint, Glasgow. This is due to the Celtic – Rangers match which kicks off at 12pm and the close proximity of Crownpoint and Celtic Park.

Teamsheets for Sunday’s CSSAL League Meeting in Ayr have now been sent out.

If you are interested in competing, there are still spaces in most Male age groups events . Also in Under 12 girls (600m, Long Jump, 80m) and as there are disappointingly no senior women signed up, there are spaces available in the 3000m, 800m, 400m, 100m and Javelin).
