The National XC Relays took place today at Cumbernauld.
Lasswade fielded four teams, one young females, two young males and one mens team.
The young females team of Rachel Hutchison, Fiona Matheson and Amy Frankland ran well to finish just outside the top 20 in 24th position.
The young male teams Kyle McKenzie, Jamie Cousin and Euan Bathgate finished 42nd and Ronan Clelland, Iain Lawson and Ross Henderson finished 56th.
A number of people found this venue difficult to find (including me and I have been there on any number of occasions) and it was looking like we might not have a mens team as two of our athletes were late arriving but they made it safely in the end. A slight adjustment to the running order was all that was required. The team of Colin Menzies, Ross Finlayson, Ben Mitchell and Barney Phillips finished a creditable 29th.
Well done to everyone who took part.

The first East District Cross Country League race took place last Saturday at Stirling University Campus. A beautiful afternoon and a great location for the race with the Wallace monument in the background.
It was fantastic to see so many Lasswade athletes taking part, 21 in total. Let's hope that we can maintain and build on these numbers for the coming league races.
We did lack numbers in the youngest age group with only one in the under 11 race, Ross McKenzie, who ran well to finish 21st.
In the under 13 boys race we had four runners Kyle McKenzie (21st), Ronan Clelland (24th), Fraser Cousin (35th) and Matthew Smith (36th). Rachel Hutchison (15th) was the sole Lasswade athlete in the under 13 girls race.
The under 15 Lasswade boys were led home by Ross Henderson (9th) followed by Jamie Cousin (13th) Iain Lawson (16th) and Calum Clark (24th). The boys were our only team to place on the day finishing 3rd team – great effort boys !! Amy Frankland (12th) brought the under 15 girls home with Sally Redpath (39th).
In the mens race we had nine athletes competing. I think this is the most that I have ever seen turn out for a Lasswade mens team at a cross country event and it was great to see you all there ! Our men were led home by our youngest man Ross Matheson who finished 2nd overall (1st Junior), Niall Sheehan (10th), Barney Phillips (14th), our late starter Colin Menzies (53rd), Ben Mitchell (55th), Andrew Matheson (66th), Richard Connor (71st), Ross Finlayson (84th) and Zander Lyon (93rd). The mens team finished fourth overall which was a great effort.
Lasswade finished fourth team overall for the day which is a great result and a credit to everyone who took part. Well done to you all.

Athletes do not have to be selected for these league races and we would encourage as many athletes as possible to participate. As you can see from the results there were a few age groups where we had incomplete teams so if you would like to compete then please speak to one of the coaches at training on Monday or Thursday as you would be a welcome addition to the team.
Please make a date in your diaries for Broxburn on 20/11/2010 and let's see if we can improve from fourth overall.

The annual East District Cross Country Relay Championships took place at Meadowmill near Prestonpans on Saturday 09 October 2010.
Lasswade fielded five teams, one young females team, two young males teams and two senior mens teams. The girls finished in 18th place overall, the boys 15th and 16th and the senior men 11th and 27th. It was good to see so many athletes turn out for the club.
The senior mens race was dominated by Central who took both first and second places with Corstorphine third. After a solid start by the Lasswade men Niall Sheehan, 8th at the end of first leg and Colin Menzies also 8th at the end of leg two. The third leg saw Ross Matheson run the fifth fastest leg of the day to pull Lasswade up to 4th going into the final stage. On the fourth leg Ross Finlayson did his best to hold off the opposition finishing in 11th place.
Well done to everyone in all the teams.
The National Cross Country Relays at Cumbernauld are only a couple of weeks away and I hope to see you all there.
Thanks to everyone who took part.

Several senior athletes took part in this annual road relay over a 2.7 mile course on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Houston, Renfrewshire.
We fielded both a mens and a womens team with both lead off runners getting their respective teams off to a great start. Barney Phillips was 3rd (13.30) on the first leg in the mens race and Keira Murray was 3rd woman (15.06). There was a solid performance on the second leg from Niall Sheehan who finished 5th (13.52) in the mens race and Wilma Kerr (19.29) kept the women in the top 6. On the third leg for the men with another good performance was John Murray (14.04) who finished 7th. Lorna Rice was the final runner in the womens team with a solid run (20.11) bringing the women home in around 13th place (not easy to identify womens teams from the results).
Unfortunately, the mens team was incomplete as our fourth runner cancelled at the last minute. However, at the end of the third leg we were within 20 seconds of 4th spot so who knows what could have happened. The womens team was complete as it was teams of three.
